CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst. This is a professional designation related to finance and is awarded to individuals by the CFA Institute®. Entry Requirements
- Have a U.S. bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree or be in the final year of your bachelor's
degree program at the time of registration, scheduled to receive a bachelor's degree
(students who successfully complete Level I of the CFA examination will not be allowed to
progress to Level II until CFA Institute receives degree confirmation); or have four years
of qualified, professional work experience or a combination of work and college
experience that totals at least four years. - Meet the professional conduct admission criteria (during the application process, you will
be asked to sign statements of Professional Conduct and Candidate Responsibility) . - Be prepared to take the exams in English.

Before you enroll in the CFA Program and register for your first exam:

- For employees who are on the firm’s payroll and for whom the employer is contributing the levy and who are sponsored by their employers, the employer can claim 20% of the fees paid under the levy grant system.
- In case of non sponsored employees following similar courses, and for whom levy is being paid by the employer, the HRDC will refund directly to the employee 20% of the fees paid.
- All such payments will be effected upon proof of admission and payment. Employees should have followed the course for at least 6 months before making any such claim.

Returning candidates pay only the exam registration fee.
*The exam registration fees also include the complete curriculum, one mock exam per level, and one sample exam (December 2009 candidates). The curriculum portion of the fees may be taxed in some U.S. states and Canada. Customs policies vary widely from country to country. International shipments may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. You must pay any additional charges for customs clearance; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Delivery delays may result if customs does not receive appropriate documentation. Contact your local customs office for further information.
Enrollment and registration fees are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Application and payment must be received by CFA Institute by 12:00 midnight Eastern Time on or before the application deadline. Full refunds are available within two business days of payment if you change your mind. Registration deferrals are also considered on a case-by-case basis for life-threatening or serious illnesses (candidate or immediate family), extreme emergencies, and mandatory military service.
If you need to apply for a visa to travel to a distant test center, please make arrangements well in advance. It is your responsibility to secure any necessary travel documents.
Candidates re-registering for the same exam level in a future calendar year will receive a $50 discount on the exam registration fee. The discount will be applied in the shopping cart during online registration. June Level I candidates who re-register in the same calendar year (Level I exams are held in June and December) will not be charged again for the curriculum.

Level I Withdrawal Option
Withdrawal forms must be received by CFA Institute by the deadline date listed on the form. Late withdrawal forms will not be processed or returned. If you do not withdraw by the deadline, you will not be able to re-register for the next Level I exam until Level I results for the current exam have been released.
As a re-registering candidate, an additional program enrollment fee is not necessary; however, you are required to pay an exam registration fee for each exam as determined by the fee schedule.
* You cannot defer registration fees from one exam to the next * You will not receive any refund of fees * You may only be registered for one exam at any time * Registration forms must be received by CFA Institute no later than the final registration deadline for that exam * The curriculum and suggested readings will change from year to year and the exam is based on the curriculum assigned that year. The Level I curriculum does not change from June to December * Even after submitting your withdrawal form, you will be unable to register online until your withdrawal has been processed. Please allow 7-14 days for processing * Once processed, withdrawals will not be reversedOnce your withdrawal has been processed, another registration form and registration fee must be submitted if you want to re-register for the original exam. CFA Institute will not accept registration forms submitted after the published deadlines. We strongly suggest submitting a paper registration form along with the withdrawal request form for quicker processing.
There are no withdrawal options for Levels II and III.

What is the CFA Program? I thought it was an exam
The CFA Program is an educational program that tests your mastery of a body of knowledge through a series of exams. If you pass these three exams and meet other requirements, you earn a CFA charter. Read the program overview.
What is a CFA charter?
The CFA charter is the designation you earn when you successfully complete the CFA Program. When you earn a charter, you become a CFA charterholder.
What is a candidate?
A candidate is a person enrolled in the CFA Program who has not yet fulfilled the requirements for becoming a CFA charterholder.
How many exams will I have to take?
There are three required levels of exams with one exam on each level.
Do I have to take the exams in three years?
No, you may take as long as you need to complete the CFA program; your exam results never expire; and we don't limit the number of times you can sit for each exam level.
When are the exams held?
Exams are held in June (all levels) and December (Level I only).

What is the format for the exams?
Each exam includes morning and afternoon sessions. The Level I questions are all multiple choice. The Level II questions are all item set (or "mini case") questions. Why doesn't CFA Institute offer the exam in languages other than English?
In order to ensure fair, global consistency both in administering the exam questions and grading candidate responses, we offer the exams only in one language.
Can you help me to determine if my degree is comparable to a U.S. bachelor's degree?
Generally, applicants must have reached a level of study that qualifies them for acceptance to university graduate programs in the countries where they earned their undergraduate degrees. If you need assistance to determine whether or not your degree is comparable to a U.S. bachelor's degree, we suggest that you contact your college or university with your inquiry.
How much does the CFA Program cost?

How do I prepare for the exams?
We recommend that you spend at least 250 hours preparing for each exam level. This recommendation, however, may substantially underestimate the hours needed for appropriate exam preparation depending on individual circumstances and academic background. Am I required to buy the CFA Program curriculum separately?
No. The complete curriculum is included as part of the registration.
